Discount Windrush 75 & Secret Feasts tickets up for grabs

👋 Countdown to your dinner in Belsize

This week, to continue to gently remind you to support local high streets by booking a table at Secret Feasts next month 😉, we’ve been speaking to event partners on the series, Vabel.

They’re the local company working to finally bring a cinema to Kentish Town Rd, as well as developing the homes above, and nearby on Haverstock Hill.

They’ve helped bring Secret Feasts to Belsize Park, and we’ll be announcing details of a Kentish Town edition very soon…

  • 🍴 Info and tickets to join Secret Feasts on Wednesday 14th June.

  • 🎞️ Read the interview with Jeremy from Vabel about local development

  • 📺 Watch this week’s video, showcasing the delightful Calici in Belsize Village, who are offering a £25 Secret Feasts menu that includes truffle arancini and bruschetta to share, with a choice of pizza, pasta or signature aubergine parmigiana, plus a glass of wine.

EVENT

Windrush 75 - Celebrating Sound System Culture

There are a load of events coming up to mark the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the HMS Windrush on these shores - and the cultural impact that generation of migrants brought to the UK - but our pick has to be this one.

It’s a celebration of the sound system, that explores the paradigm-changing new world of 3D audio in live events at EartH in Hackney for the first time.

Legendary UK reggae dons Aswad will debut 3D mixes of tracks from their new live LP.

Iconic DJ/producer, Ashley Beedle, and Jo Wallace (Ramrock HiFi), will revisit Ashley's sets from the pioneering Shock Soundsystem - the first to play house music at Notting Hill Carnival.

Plus there’s a screening of the newly restored, 50th anniversary version of pioneering film The Harder They Come, starring Jimmy Cliff, which helped popularise reggae music around the world.

It’s all on Fri June 23rd, and it will sell out - so that’s why we’re telling you now.

Tickets are £15+booking fee, however we’ve got a limited number for Camdenist readers priced at just £10.

FOOD + DRINK

We went Wild at The Cross

The restaurant at reborn King’s Cross nightlife institution The Cross has just relaunched, displaying its full intent to carve out a strong position in the world class local food line-up.

So of course we had to head down there for a predictably fun evening getting stuck in amongst the new sharing plates and cocktails - essential research to inform you all of what to go there and try for yourselves.

MUSIC

Kenwood does gigs by candlelight

Gig highlights are in association with the fabulous Halibuts.com
  • 🕯️ Yes, it might be a bit crowd-pleasing and a touch cynical if still rather magical, but tickets to two tribute gigs at Kenwood House featuring a string quartet playing amidst thousands of candles are almost sold out. Tonight’s Morricone & Zimmer event is returns only, while there are a few spots left at tomorrow’s selection of classical classics from pop heroes Queen.

  • 🎸Globe-trotting independent artist mini-festival Bridging The Music touches down at The Fiddler’s Elbow on Sunday afternoon and into the evening with local and touring acts, visual artists and loads more offering a real grassroots community vibe.

  • 🎤 New York indie band The Moldy Peaches are headlining their first UK gig in 22 years with a full six-piece band at the Roundhouse on bank holiday Monday.
