Local book groups to keep you busy

Whatever the new restrictions look like next week, you can guarantee there'll still be plenty more evenings on the sofa in store this winter. Many of us our whiling away the spare hours with a good book, and if you're thinking of doing the same but don't know where to start, then why not join your neighbours in one of the borough's many book clubs? Local groups include those run by Camden's Black History Season, the Ladies of the Lock WI, Age UK, and Belsize Community Library - all of which are meeting online throughout lockdown. Don't forget that lots of our favourite book shops are offering deliveries and click and collect services right now, so be sure to shop local when you update your reading pile.

Black History Season continues in Camden tonight (Thurs 26 Nov), with a free online screening of Black Joy - the 1977 film that tells the story of a Guyanan country boy who is thrown into the hustling city ways of Brixton life. It's accompanied by a special panel talk on black film exhibitors that opened the doors to UK cinemas and carried on the legacy of creating public access to the best black films on the big screen.
