Floating live musicians ahoy, plus a Little Prince

Your Friday morning essential read. Five local feel-good highlights, including exclusive special offers and events. Prepared with love by the team at Camdenist

SHOW: The Little Prince dances onto Euston Rd

This Christmas, acclaimed choreographer Luca Silvestrini's 2018 adaptation of The Little Prince makes a very welcome return to The Place in Euston, whisking audiences of all ages on a journey through a universe packed with dance, music and humour. After crashing his plane in the desert, a pilot meets an inquisitive boy who has left his own tiny asteroid behind. During his adventure, the Little Prince is faced with the confusing adult world. Featuring an original score by Frank Moon, design by Yann Seabra and lighting from Jackie Shemesh, this award-winning production from Silvestrini's own company, Protein, gently guides us towards reconnecting with our inner child. It runs 18th-24th December, and is a brilliant way to celebrate and support the local arts recover from the shock of Covid. Tickets & full info here

CANAL: Unusual winter on the water

For a festive experience with a rather magical, waterborne twist, look out for

Brigadoon Floating Market

, mooring up locally for a 10-day series of cosy concerts, live workshops and thought-provoking movie nights. It'll all be happening aboard the

Molly Anna

barge on the Regent's Canal towpath steps at King's Cross from 13th-23rd December, alongside dishes by

The Baltic Seafood

boat and Loki's CafΓ© (who do narrowboat-woodfired pizza). Captain Eric has asked us to spread the word to Camden's many talented musicians that free busking slots are available on the Molly Anna, where you'll get a glass of mulled wine and can keep all your donations - all you have to do is play some suitably Christmassy covers in your set. More info and to book a free busking slot here. A little further west,

Paddle Boarding London

's winter evening sessions (pictured above) are an unusual way to see the canal at this time of year. Glide along the surface under illuminated bridges after dark with friends and family, or meet some new people in very memorable ice-breaking setting. Just be sure to wrap up warm. πŸ₯Ά

 VISIT: Culture pops up again

The Museum of Youth Culture is one of a kind in the UK, an organisation that celebrates the impact of youth movements on our society through its archive of over 150,000 photographs, ephemera and educational texts. It's back on the road again this month with a special Christmas pop up at 154-156 Shaftesbury Avenue. It's free to enjoy, but you can help the Museum make the site its permanent home via donations too.

On that note...

Look out soon for the next free print magazine, Camdenist presents...the night, which features amazing nightlife images from the MYC archive.

SHOP: Dance & shop until you Coal Drop

Today and running across this weekend, Coal Drops Yard is hosting the solution to your present-buying and weekened socialising dilemmas rolled into one. The Drops Festive Special features fashion, homeware and accessories from cult brands and new designers for you to explore all day and into the evening in the main courtyard. Meanwhile Spiritland are programming a top draw line-up of DJs dropping tunes to inspire for hours across a sure-to-be-great sound system, for free.

WATCH: Talacre Gardens when it was a wasteland

This classic documentary made back in 1974 (check the amazing accents of the era), tells the story of how a group of passionate locals began transforming the once-derelict 2.5 acre slum housing clearance site by Kentish Town West station. It's a rare look at how a scene of urban decay morphed slowly but purposefully into the

family-friendly

Talacre Gardens

, a green community space with loads of sports facilities that is hugely loved today.

THIS WEEK'S ONE-CLICK POLL As evidenced in this week's crop of local things to do, Camden's lovely public waterways are just as busy these days in winter and summer, day and night. But how do you feel about walking along the canal?

LAST WEEK WE ASKED:

Camden High Street is about to be inundated with new fast food chains, with Wendy's, Leon, Taco Bell and two more branches of KFC and Subway all opening up soon. Good or bad news? The votes this week seem unequivocal - people don't like their high street full of burger joints and the big international food chains. However we'll probably all be able to agree that the new restaurants will all still be doing a roaring trade until the wee hours regardless. πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™€οΈ
