Camden's big new immersive experiences + a hot margarita bar

Your Friday morning essential read. Five local highlights you really need to know, researched and presented with enthusiasm by the team at Camdenist

 ACTION: Immersive adventures in Camden

London is currently awash with shows, dinners and parties that are big on the 'experience', from a chaotic dinner in the Fawlty Towers dining room to alien-dodging War of the Worlds scenarios. Camden Market has just become the latest destination to offer some of these immersive hot tickets, as iconic video game heroine Laura Croft has taken up residence in NW1 at Tomb Raider: The Live Experience. Run by the people behind the Crystal Maze Live, it offers plucky teams a series of puzzles, obstacles and thrills as they rush to complete various exotic adventures in a huge space under North Yard. Booking is now also open for Peaky Blinders: The Rise, an atmospheric new theatre production that sees you transported to Camden Town in 1921 (and invited to dress the part, too) as you play an integral role in Tommy Shelby's plans to take London. It opens on June 24th.

CULTURE: Queer museum opens + affordable art

LGBTQ+ history and cultural impact is being celebrated in its own dedicated space for the first time in the UK, with the opening yesterday of Queer Britain on Granary Square. The debut show is just a taster of what's planned for the lovely accessible space, which used to be home to House of Illustration. Leading by example, the museum is free to visit, and absolutely all gender identities are welcome. Meanwhile, the Affordable Art Fair returns to Hampstead Heath this weekend for a 10th edition. It's a massive tent brimming with thousands of contemporary artworks from a mix of international and local galleries including emerging artists from University of the Arts London, plus Camden Open Air Gallery, who were recently profiled on Camdenist.

DRINK: The Lucky Club brings the Mezcal magic

Locals are being spoilt for choice of new rooftop hangouts, (as we celebrated in last week's

 on the eve of

KOKO

's reopening with bar/ restaurant up top). Next to join the rooftop lineup, after a £2m renovation, is

The Lucky Club

, opening on Friday at Chalk Farm's historic horse hospital, (formerly Proud and Fest). It specialises in Margaritas and Mezcal cocktails, plus fiery Mexican plates. If you're a fan and just can't wait, La Piñata Festival  celebrates

 tomorrow over at Tobacco Dock.

MUSIC: Folk in KX, Blues in CT

Catch

Flook

, the critically-acclaimed folk quartet, playing at

Kings Place

next Thursday (12th). Influenced by Irish and English traditions, the band's blend of acoustic grooves and traditional tunes brings flutes, accordion, guitar and bodhrán together in a hypnotic ensemble. Then, for something completely different, head to Blues Kitchen on Camden High St for the Sunday Blues Jam, where musicians jam while you tuck into brunch, booze and a Southern-style barbecue.

OFFERS: 20% off wine and a free £100 meal

Above all, Camdenist is a mutually supportive community, and we're chuffed you're part of it. We can only do what we do due to local advertisers, so we love it when you support them in turn - and they offer great incentives, too. Don't forget to claim 20% off all Italian wines at Casa Tua Delizie the exciting new deli on Royal College Street (until end of May). Just mention Camdenist. And on Instagram @camdenist there's the chance to win a £100 meal for 2 at newly opened Trap Kitchen on Chalk Farm Road.  THIS WEEK'S ONE-CLICK POLL

LAST WEEK WE ASKED:

Somewhat surprisingly, nearly half of you are staunch enemies of the little blue bird, whilst on the flip side a fair few are feeling positively comfortable in Camden's cosy virtual nest, at least. Will the worried 31% prove themselves right if Mr Musk flies in?
