Opinion on Camden Market being up for sale + 5 weekend highlights

Camdenist presents your Friday morning essential read. Five local highlights and cultural happenings across the borough.

1

MUSIC: Kenwood's cancelled gigs are finally on

It's a big weekend up on Hampstead Heath, with the totally free annual community fun day at Parliament Hill bandstand on Sunday offering games, stalls, art, a carnival plus live music, all afternoon. Meanwhile up at Kenwood House, after being cancelled for two years on the trot due to Covid, the Heritage Live concerts are finally happening, with a few tickets still available to see James and The Charlatans tonight, Rag'n'Bone Man on Sat and David Rodigan's Outlook Orchestra on Sun. Next week catch Culture Club (Fri 17th), Nile Rodgers & Chic (Sat 18th) and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds (Sun 19th).

2

RIDE: World Naked Bike Ride in Regent's Park

The joyful celebration that is

World Naked Bike Ride

comes to Regent's Park for the first time on Saturday (the usual start location of Hyde Park still being fenced off due to last weekend's Jubilee bonanza). It's a ride that neatly protests against global oil dependency and our car-centric roads, demonstrates the vulnerability of cyclists and proudly celebrates body freedom, too. All are things our world needs a lot more of right now, so if you aren't pedaling down and stripping off, you can at least go and cheer the plucky participants on.

3

VISIT: Emerging talent in West Hampstead

Saturday and Sunday sees the labyrinthine Victorian factory

Kingsgate Workshops

host its

summer open studios,

showcasing the vast range of craft, design and contemporary art practitioners based at their West Hampstead arts and workspace. You can meet the makers, buy their beautiful pieces direct, and even participate in a range of talks and hands-on workshops, from pottery to musical instrument and printmaking sessions.
