EXPERIENCE: Take afternoon tea with Rankin

The famous Kentish Town-based photographer is opening up his Annroy Studio to the public today and all weekend for a rare glimpse inside. Famous for his work with celebrities and top global brands, Rankin will also be unveiling The Penthouse Salon, his new concept space. Today between 1-4pm, members of the public can enjoy afternoon tea at the studio and explore two of Rankin's latest exhibitions: An Exploding World and Embrace. The images are inspired by the photographer's experiences of isolation during the lockdowns and feature his distinctively portraits of plants. He'll be doing a book signing on Saturday (2-4pm) and the exhibitions are open to all until 5pm on Sunday.

PARTIES: More outdoor late summer festis

This weekend sees free street events in the Camden Together series including the cancelled Pride being celebrated by way of potato printing and LGBTQ+ designer-maker stalls at Mother. Camden New Town Community Festival sees performances, stalls and activities all weekend on Camden Square. And the York Rise Street Festival returns with art, cinema, crowd karaoke, ska from The Estimators plus The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment across 4 stages on Sunday afternoon.

ART: Three new free exhibitions to explore

Three new exhibitions open today at Camden Art Centre: Zeinab Saleh's work uses charcoal to reflect on stillness; Phoebe Collings-James explores ceramic form through sculpture, bodies of water and audio; and Adam Farah presents heartache, trauma, desire and spiritual voyaging. Entry to all exhibitions is free, but you will need to book a complimentary slot in advance to keep the galleries Covid-safe.

LONG READ: Welcome to the future(s)

As HowTheLightGetsIn, the world's largest festival of philosophy and music,

lands at Kenwood House next weekend, we speak to Futures Theorist Luke Robert Mason

about predicting the future, cryogenics and the invention of linear time. The fascinating interview is well worth settling down in a comfortable seat to read. Mason will be appearing at the festival alongside many more of the planet's leading thinkers, politicians and questioning minds. We can't wait.

CAMDENIST READER OFFER: 20% OFF the price of all tickets for How The Light Gets In, 18-19 September

THIS WEEK'S ONE-CLICK POLL After interviewing 'futures theorist' Luke Robert Mason this week (see above), we've been pondering the quest for immortality. Would you go for it, if you had the chance?

LAST WEEK WE ASKED:

As a new weekly market offering fresh produce from independent traders opens at Hawley Wharf, what are your views on urban farmers markets?

Locals have spoken and you all love a decent market, with very few people not at least occasionally dropping by for a decadent slice of something sweet. Many of you are super keen and make a visit part of weekly shop. Do check out the new The Spread Produce Market at Dockray Place NW1, as there's plenty tasty stuff to try and buy, with more traders being added each week. Full Hawley Wharf area guide coming soon on Camdenist.com, too...
