Flowers power (and other ideas guaranteed to save lockdown V-Day) 💘

Your Lockdown Lifeline: weekly feel-good reads, exclusive deals and local highlights to enjoy from home, prepared with love by the team at Camdenist

 CCC AWARDS: Local Care Champion

Read this week's moving story of Carolyn Hayman, OBE, who decided to open her home up to a woman who was about to be made homeless during the lockdowns. The two learned much from each other, becoming firm friends. We speak to both of them here.

VALENTINES GIFT OFFER: 20% OFF at Rewild Flowers

With seriously brilliant timing for those who've let valentines creep up on them, fall head over heels for Rewild Flowers, who are offering Camdenist readers 20% OFF any bunch of flowers from now until the end of April. Grab the discount code here and place your order right now to ensure your beloved gets a stunning bouquet on Sunday, as if you had been planning it for weeks 😉

EAT: Camden's new pub & restaurant, The Farrier

Tantalising news of another would-be-imminent local restaurant opening, this time in Stables Market, promising dishes like game pie, wild smoked pigeon or beef fat-cured mackerel - just as soon as it's legal to serve them. The Farrier is the neighbourhood's brand new gastro pub, located in the beautiful old Horse Hospital building, and will be big on Sunday roast sharing platters, excellent music and top wines, too. Find out more while we wait.

 EVENTS: LGBT History Month gigs

It's Week 2 of Camden and Islington's LGBT History Month, which is stuffed with virtually-based highlights including the Loudest Whispers art exhibition, a valentine’s day bingo special, Drag Queen Story Time, a lesbian discussion group, Zodiac Bar London's big quiz, panel discussions and more. Chris & Shimi (pictured) will sing valentines (and anti-valentines) songs live this Sunday at 6.30 on YouTube in Virtually Romantic. The full programme is on the Forum+ website

 ONLINE: Valentines cyber raving?

Cyberdog, Camden Market's iconic purveyors of all things fluro, shiny and flashing, are throwing a Lockdown Love Fest valentines virtual reality rave. With an all-girl DJ line-up of Gaya Brisa, MËDÛŻÅ and S/A/M,

across the Sansar VR platform (or the plain old 2D technology of Zoom, Facebook or Twitch). Getting dressed up for the occasion feels like a good idea.

THIS WEEK'S ONE-CLICK POLL What do you think about the new bike lanes and low traffic zones that have appeared during lockdowns in the borough?

LAST WEEK WE ASKED:

How much are you looking forward to visiting a pub, restaurant, show or gathering after lockdown is lifted?

In a positive prediction for the local hospitality sector, Camdenists are clearly eager to get back out there to eat, drink, dance and socialise just as soon as they can.

Camdenist is collaborative and transparent by design. We want all locals to participate, so we've built a form where you can send us ideas, propose features, and even contribute your own work.

 Well worth following...
