The Barbary Next Door, Bloomsbury Festival + a loo debate!

Your Friday morning essential read. Five local feel-good highlights, including exclusive special offers and events. Prepared with love by the team at Camdenist
VISIT: See the light at Bloomsbury Festival

The return of Bloomsbury Festival promises to be a colourful and luminous affair this year, with a theme of 'Shining Light'. Free celebrations kick off this evening from 6.30pm on Cromer Street with kinetic tigers from Shademakers, neon sculptures by Chila Kumari Singh Burman, Bengali silk banners by Kinetika and a fire and light marble run installation at Bramber Gardens courtesy of the Bureau of Silly Ideas. The programme of vents runs until the 24th and includes a pop-up planetarium, a chance to meet ALICE, the life-sized interactive robot, and free exhibitions at venues in the area such as the Grant Museum of Zoology, the Brunei Gallery at SOAS and Spaghetti House.
MUSIC: 80s legends & 20s stars

Roundhouse Rising Festival returns to the famous Chalk Farm Rd venue this Tuesday, featuring hotly-tipped new musical talent and providing masterclasses and discussions for the next generation (18-25-year-olds) too. They've partnered with some of the biggest brands in the world of music education and will offer showcase events in the venue and live on YouTube. Meanwhile just down the road, the much-anticipated high-tech music district Outernet takes another step towards full opening as pop icons Duran Duran celebrate 40 years in the game and their 15th album launch with a special streamed live Q&A and global premiere of the behind-the-scenes documentary Double Take. It reveals how the band and director Alison Jackson made the video for their single Anniversary. Find out more about Outernet in Camdenist.com's recent exclusive interview.

WATCH: Ghosts of Hampstead past

Take a trip back in time thanks to a
,
brought to life again by London's Screen Archives. Explore the fascinating history of Hampstead including the highwayman who was hanged near North End Road (where the local gallows once were), the story behind Kenwood's trees, and while you know that Hampstead tube station is deep (it's 192 feet below street level), you'll discover that - at the time of filming - it was the deepest underground station in the world.
EAT: Holborn's hotspots

Plenty of exciting new food arriving in and around Holborn at the moment as
Colonel Saab
arrives with
and delectable desserts on High Holborn. Nearby,
Veto Meato
are in the kitchen at
The
Old Crown
pub on
New Oxford Street
with a 100%
, including kebabs, curries and salad bowls. And booking is now open for only 10 countertop spots at
The Barbery Next Door
, a sister restaurant to the Neal's Yard original. It opens on Wednesday, inspired by Andalusian back street bars and airy Moroccan courtyards. Perfect.

CAMDENIST Presents... autumn 2021
Remember to look out for the latest 32-page print guide, available free across Camden and London

THIS WEEK'S ONE-CLICK POLL With vegan eateries (like Veto-Meato above) popping up across the city, how thrilled are you by the unstoppable rise in eco-outlets?
LAST WEEK WE ASKED:
Voters are split as to whether the shiny pop-up public pissoirs are a godsend of just god awful, but are much more
irked
by the lack of options for women. When will Camden's own loo gods provide such kerbside conveniences for the rest of the population?
