One year since lockdown marked with a free show
Five weekly feel-good highlights, including exclusive offers, great reads, videos and things to do locally during and after lockdown. Prepared with love by the team at Camdenist
COVID ANNIVERSARY: Street exhibition, film and more
Tuesday marks the one year anniversary of the UK's first Covid lockdown, the dramatic upending of our daily lives, and a wave of loss, inequality and harm that continues to be felt. As well as the national day of reflection and minute of silence, you can enjoy an outdoor exhibition by local photographer Karishma Puri, which celebrates the human spirit over this time - Isolating Together. We spoke to Karishma for the story behind the images and arranging the ambitious billboard show during a pandemic.
Meanwhile, Thursday evening sees the
of
Beyond The Mask
, a film that sensitively explores the 'bereavement epidemic' of Covid, and how it presents us with an important opportunity to talk about dying and grief in more honest and healthy ways.
DRINK: New brewery and tap room coming
A new micro brewery and tap room has been granted permission to open in arches directly under the proposed Camden High Line elevated park. Werewolf Beer currently concoct their premium American-style brews in the basement at NW5's Rose & Crown pub, but have been planning the expansion to Randolph Street (pictured in the insert above) for some time. We'll keep you up to date on their opening plans, another thing to look forward to post-lockdown in a growing list...
MAKE: Earl of East home workshops
With a fair few rainy weekends still to come under lockdown, Coal Drops Yard's ever-so-fragrant lifestyle and homewares emporium, Earl of East, have opened up more dates for their popular Zoom-based candle-making sessions. Book a workshop, choose your scent blend and a name to go on your very own candle's label, and the complete kit will be mailed out to you. £55 includes all the kit plus the live online guidance and advice.
WATCH: 5 music videos shot at the Roundhouse
While the countdown to safe music gigs continues, why not remind yourself what a wonderous space Chalk Farm Rd venue Roundhouse is, with these five great music videos shot either in the main space, or the atmospheric undercroft below? Stereophonics, Bauhaus, Manic Street Preachers and Dans le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip are all present, plus a 'forgotten garage anthem' recorded by Victoria Beckham in 2000.
EAT: Rainbow vegan Flower Burger
Just arrived from Milan are these made-for-the-Gram psychedelic plant-based food creations.
Flower Burger
just opened its first UK outlet here (on Charlotte Street), currently offering delivery or pick-up of the iconic C
herry Bomb
and a range of other eye-popping burgers and sides made with natural colourings and planet-conscious 100% vegan ingredients. Eventually you'll be able to eat in an equally dazzling interior.
THIS WEEK'S ONE-CLICK POLL Noise complaints in Camden are up by many hundreds as we've all been cooped up at home, but should we cut the party crowd a bit more slack this summer?
LAST WEEK WE ASKED:
What kind of freebies, discounts or competition prizes would most excite you to receive in this email in the weeks ahead?
Brilliant news for local businesses - making attractive offers to our readers is a big motivation in getting them to visit after lockdown. We also look forward to arranging some very special events for you all in the summer. Funnily enough, although only 16% reported being most excited by big ticket draws for referring your friends, we've seen many hundreds jump at the chance for a champagne date at Searcy's (see below) this week for simply doing just that!
CAMDENIST COMMUNITY: Spread the word to win
Congratulations to Marnie Llewelyn for winning the special delivery of a Mothers Day candle package from Hampstead's Wild Scents Botanics, and to the winner of a limited edition Jayson Lilley-designed 'Love You London' coffee tin from Pepita Coffee in Kentish Town. AS per the poll above, there will be more of these local offers coming up, so look out and thanks for sharing!
WIN a Champagne tasting date for two at Searcys St Pancras
An evening of champagne tasting with a paired food menu at Europe's longest Champagne bar, Searcys, awaits one dedicated Camdenist ambassador. From April 12th, dining on the concourse at St Pancras Station is back (it's legally outdoors, yet still fully under cover!) There's a special celebratory pairing menu, including a trio of different Champagnes to taste alongside a selection of small plates, that you and a date could be enjoying alongside your new freedom in just a few short weeks time...
Share your unique link with neighbours, friends and family:
You've recommended a total of people so far. Good luck!
Each new sign-up = one entry. Tag a friend in the Searcys post on our Instagram for even more chances to win, too.
Camdenist is collaborative and transparent by design. We want all locals to participate, so we've built a form where you can send us ideas, propose features, and even contribute your own work.
