More local Ricky Gervais tickets, plus Little Amal reaches Camden

Your Friday morning essential read. Five local feel-good highlights, including exclusive special offers and events. Prepared with love by the team at Camdenist

 EVENT: Meet Little Amal

Little Amal is a 3.5 metre-tall living artwork of a young Syrian refugee child, from the creators of Warhorse, who has been making her way across Europe over recent months. The puppet’s journey, The Walk, has been accompanied by hundreds of cultural events all held in an effort to raise awareness of the issues faced by young refugees. This weekend she’s walking through London and will arrive in Camden Town on Sunday evening, so look out for her on the streets. Later on, the Roundhouse is throwing a 10th birthday bash for her, where producer and artist Blue May has curated an exciting concert featuring renowned sitar player and composer Anoushka Shankar, rapper and activist Lowkey, and internationally acclaimed poet, playwright and performer Inua Ellams. There are still a few tickets left, if you're quick.

Heads-up!

We know from the response to his previous hush-hush gigs at Kentish Town Forum that Camdenist Weekly C-Mail readers love a chance to see Ricky Gervais perform stand-up on his 'home' turf. So here's today's heads-up - tickets go on sale at 10am this morning for another of these intimate warm-ups, (on 10th November), before he goes on a big arena tour. Get set...go!

 EAT: No tricks, just treats

Kick off a spooky season at Seven Dials Market next week, with their Coven Garden extravaganza, which runs 25th-31st. All the food traders have come up with special Halloween dishes like Nanban's Eye of Newt and Toe of Frog Ramen (pictured), Bong Bong's Spicy Blood StewBad Boy Pizza Soc's Flaming Toadstool Pizza or The Cheese Bar's Blood Bath Cheesecake. Creepy cocktails abound too: sip on a Striped Stocking Martini or the Dark Night's Sky featuring Hennessy. On the Saturday your pumpkin awaits to whisk you away to the Market's Halloween Ball, with wizards casting spells from behind the decks and prizes for the best costumes. If your hangover is particularly scary the next day, look no further and come straight back for bottomless brunch - the treat to your trick.

PLAY: Half term theatre, and clay

If you're 13-19 and based in the borough, Camden Youth Theatre (run by Camden People's Theatre and New Diorama) is a free weekly creative club where you can learn skills like performing, movement, song writing and playwriting from professional theatre-makers. Email Christina here for more info. Or for those aged 5-12, community hub Rochester Square are running PLAY CLAY on 25th and 26th October. The theme is Harvest and all students will create a ceramic sculpture to take home.

 ART: Local photography talent

Violeta Sofia's exhibition Excellence Redefined challenges the pressure that comes with the 'Black Excellence' narrative, instead allowing for authenticity and softness. Her portraits are at the Roundhouse Bar and Cafe until the end of the month. Meanwhile at Mario's Café on NW5's pretty Kelly Street (pictured), you'll find local photographer Emil Torday's images, taken on his travels around Japan. Enjoy one of Camden's top fry-ups and take in another landscape.

 EXPERIENCE: Breathe it all in

This weekend (until Sunday) you can travel around the world for free at Michael Pinsky's

in

King's Cross

. The free installation consists of five geodesic domes, each representing a different urban air quality and environment inside. Experience a taste of the air from five different cities; from the pure arctic freshness of Tautra in Norway to the all-encompasing smog and pollution of New Delhi, India. It raises many questions about choices we can (and can't) make.

THIS WEEK'S ONE-CLICK POLL With big changes to our lifestyles increasingly being seen as the only way to avoid catastrophic climate change, how adaptable do you feel you are?

LAST WEEK WE ASKED:

Nearly half of voters are happy to dabble with a flexitarian approach to dining, and most of the other half are well into their eco eating. With reducing our meat and dairy intake shaping up to be one of the hottest topics at COP26 next week, only 14% of you still resolutely feel it's not a 'proper' meal without a bit of animal in it.
