West End theatre in a secret NW5 basement

Your Friday morning essential read. Five local feel-good highlights, including exclusive special offers and events. Prepared with love by the team at Camdenist

EXCLUSIVE OFFER: 50% off Remoli grab 'n go pasta

A brand new concept, offering premium food on-the-go in place of the usual cold sandwich for hurried travellers, is also proving to be a real destination for savvy locals. Remoli opened when lockdown lifted, in the heart of St Pancras Station, offering fresh pasta and a choice of various sauces, in a grab n' go format. This week we spoke to founder and chef, Simone Remoli, about the challenges of the last year and how he and his team have come back with even more passion. Best of all, they are offering Camdenist readers a half price deal on all regular pasta dishes purchased throughout June. As ever, just mention Camdenist to claim the deal. Fantastica!

 THEATRE: Psychodrama...in an NW5 restaurant

Highgate Road's former Pizza East, now reborn as all-day restaurant Never For Ever, is about to host a groundbreaking, Covid-secure theatre experience in the basement (yes, the old Chicken Shop). Psychodrama promises to be a gripping monologue starring Peep Show actor Emily Bruni, with an all-star team on board, including sound by Gareth Fry (who did the London Olympic Ceremony and Harry Potter in the West End), lighting by Elliot Griggs (who lit Fleabag), and the play's writer/director Matt Wilkinson. It centres on an actress in her 40s under investigation for murder, and tickets for the early shows, which had to be rearranged from their original dates, have already sold out so grab the remaining ones while you still can. Designed as an innovative response to Covid which has attracted some of theatre's brightest talents, it should be an enthralling and very refreshing show.

DRINK: A taste of Hampstead Heath

A local husband and wife team have started their own gin distillery, making drinks with flavours inspired botanicals native to Hampstead Heath. As so many of us have done during lockdown, the duo spent a lot of time walking their dog in London's wild green oasis, and set up The Heath Distillery to celebrate their love for the place. Available in original, pink and CBD-infused varieties, a percentage of profits goes to local caretaking charity Heath Hands, too.

EXHIBITION: Did You See or Hear Anything?

This new exhibition from photographer Bill Shapter, comprises 60 images taken right across the London area over the last 18 months. His work questions whether we are becoming too accustomed to the floral tributes that mark the scene of a violent death. As we often hurry by, Shapter's photos reveal the wide variety of people and neighbourhoods affected by such crimes. It opens next week at the Camden Image Gallery, on Royal College St.

 ENJOY: Camden's pub cat portraits

Now we can venture back into our favourite public houses again, Camden-based photographer Simon Lamrock has been taking portraits of the area's pub cats, profiled in the New Journal last week. Churchill (pictured here) is resident of The Old Eagle, and the series to date includes Jacqueline, chief mouser at McGlynn's in King's Cross, plus the legendary Nelson, fireplace mainstay at Tapping The Admiral. Check them out on Simon's Instagram.

THIS WEEK'S ONE-CLICK POLL How much did you bend the regulations during the lockdowns? (Don't worry, this poll is always 100% anonymous!)

LAST WEEK WE ASKED:

With lockdown increasing our reliance on home delivery for everything from dinner and groceries to clothes or flowers, will you reduce the amount you order online now we can go out to shops and restaurants again?

Even though the borough is positively bristling with new delivery companies, each aiming to bring us consumer items in minutes, it seems like a healthy proportion of readers are keen to fend for themselves once more. Hopefully it's not just the novelty of getting out of the house behind the 47%, and we haven't completely lost the art of popping to the corner shop or even an exciting trip to a West End department store. Only time will tell...
