25 brand new, much-loved & secret rooftop hangouts to discover
Your Friday morning essential read. Five local highlights you really need to know, researched and presented with enthusiasm by the team at Camdenist
DRINK: A big list of roof terraces to try
Just in time for the bank holiday weekend, we've put together an exhaustive list (and a map) detailing
, all good for sunshine/sunsets and brilliant views across London. Many of them are yet to open this summer, but with The Lucky Club bringing Mexican cocktails to Chalk Farm Rd in May, Tattu opening their outdoor space for the first time high above Tottenham Court Rd's Now Building, and the long-promised 1,000+ capacity Zedwell Sky Bar's eagerly anticipated arrival atop the Trocadero, Camden's outdoor drinking scene is definitely looking up.
MUSIC: KOKO reopens, we celebrate the night
From tonight, legendary Camden venue KOKO is officially back on the local gig circuit. After a dormant three years of multi-million pound restoration, the doors open with Arcade Fire (who themselves haven't played live for 4 years). Then tomorrow sees the Grand Opening of the venue's new in-house electronic night KOKO Electronic. Stepping into the DJ booth will be hotly-anticipated Ibiza legend Luciano, Isaac Carter and Fiorella rinsing the new world-class sound and lighting until 5am. The venue now also boasts a jazz club, rooftop cocktail terrace, café, shop/DJ space and morning to late-night tap bar and pizzeria. Its reopening signifies an important milestone in the recovery of the UK's nightlife scene after being decimated by the Covid lockdowns. Read the lead article from recent print magazine Camdenist Presents...The Night, on why we will always be pro-nightlife, including input from KOKO's CEO and Founder Olly Bengough.
EVENT: Mayday at Two Tribes with Dig It
Camden's soundsystem heroes Dig It are back at their free party best tomorrow, throwing an epic afternoon-until-late-night session to mark May Day. It all goes down at Two Tribes Brewery's excellent Campfire, tucked behind Tileyard studios off York Way. Not only do you get the affable Dig It DJs rocking the whole all-weather space, but there's top beer and flame grilled food all in plentiful supply to get this bank holiday weekend done right.
EXHIBITIONS: Exploring space, sound & fake news
Explore the limits of space and sound at 180 The Strand's brand new exhibition Future Shock. Featuring immersive works by visionary artists using pioneering digital technology including AI, 3D digital mapping, holographic projects, lasers and electronic music, expect a right old multi-sensory journey. Meanwhile, the British Library's timely Breaking the News exhibition interrogates the UK news, how we experience reporting and what really lies behind the headlines.
FOOD: Trap Kitchen opens in Chalk Farm
Soul food sensation Trap Kitchen began when Prince Cofie-Owusu posted photos of his cooking on social media. Soon customers queued outside his mum's flat, eager to try his dishes. Now popular with the likes of Stormzy, the kitchen has just opened its latest restaurant on Chalk Farm Road. We hear from Prince about his mouthwatering menu and vision for the future. THIS WEEK'S ONE-CLICK POLL With Elon Musk taking over Twitter, how do you see it affecting social media discourse here in Camden?
Make sure you follow us for culture war-free positive local tweets every day 😉
LAST WEEK WE ASKED:
Does this mean we can expect a strong turnout at the local ballot boxes, or could it be that people who are going to vote next week are also, er, most likely voting 'yes' in this poll too? Interesting too the 10% who took the time to vote 'no' here...to point out they won't be doing so on Thursday?!
