Go plastic-free with Fair-Well and they'll give you chocolate, free

As we emerge from the latest lockdown and settle into at least two weeks of tier two, Camdenist presents a selection of the very best things that you can do

Stay home, support local, save the planet

 Free chocolate from Fair-Well

Conscientious Camden residents can protect the planet and stay safe at home thanks to North London re-fill initiative, Fair-Well. The environmentally-friendly small business has been helping locals banish plastic from their grocery shopping since 2019, offering deliveries of packaging-free household staples and beauty products direct to the doors of loyal customers in their rather adorable 1970's electric milk float. You can get in on the zero-waste action by gathering up your tupperware and jars, and booking a free delivery direct to your door - there's no minimum spend, all their products are environmentally friendly, and the first five customers to quote 'CAMDENIST' can claim a free helping of delicious organic chocolate drops with any order.

Brand new festival Podcast Stop is headed for the O2 Forum next February, with a host of podcasting stars set to take to the stage. Snap up tickets to listen in live to the people who've been keeping you company during lockdown, featuring comedy queen Katherine Ryan's smash hit podcast Telling Everyone Everything, Deborah Frances-White with The Guilty Feminist, and Matt Richardson and Matt Willis with When No One's Watching.

Invest some time in your community

If you've been telling yourself that you’d like to give something back to the borough this year, but still haven’t quite got around to it, you've still got time. For a helpful insight into the plethora of ways that you can help out, follow Camden Volunteering Centre on social media for their twelve days of Christmas, as they kick off December by sharing a new volunteering opportunity each day. Alternatively, you can head straight to their website to browse the full array of options, and try your hand as a telephone befriender, mentor, or even a fire cadet.

Get out of the house this weekend and celebrate the return of beer on tap at The Electric Ballroom's Winter Beer Hall. Offering you and your bubble the chance to kick off the festive season in style, they’re having a snowy (socially distanced) makeover with the help of five awesome indie brewers and Bavarian street food stalls, plus live entertainment in the form of brass bands and party DJs. Even better, it's happening every weekend from now until Christmas.

   Vote for the educators

This week we're focusing attention on the education sector in the nominations for the Camden Covid Champions awards. If there's a teacher, school staff member, Zoom-tutor, virtual music-lesson hero or other educator who has gone over and above the call of duty during the lockdowns, it's time to put their name and work forward.

More local deals you may have missed...

Camdenist is collaborative and transparent by design. We want all locals to participate, so we've built a form where you can send us ideas, propose features, and even contribute your own work.
