Local artist-designed t-shirt range launches 😍

Five weekly feel-good highlights, including exclusive offers, great reads, videos and things to do locally as we ease into 'unlockdown'. Prepared with love by the team at Camdenist

EXCLUSIVE: Camdenist X Ellis limited edition t-shirts

16-year-old born-and-bred Camden artist,

Ellis

, has produced the first in a brand new series of limited edition t-shirts. The

Camdenist X

range will showcase local talent who we've commissioned to create designs inspired by life in the area. Read Ellis' profile and the story behind her artwork, which features some familiar landmarks and exudes plenty of warm, lazy summertime on the Heath vibes. You can buy this debut shirt in the collection, with all profits going to the artist, and look out for more designs to come, too. If you'd like to find out more about collaborating with us on a future edition in the series, please get in touch. Just reply to this, or use the usual editorial button down at the end of the email.

SHOP! The return of Buck Street Market

After many delays,

Camden Town

's promising eco market fashioned from a series of shipping containers had

just

opened when the first lockdown hit. With Christmas trading subsequently ruined too, now's the time to go treat yourself and support

's clued-up designer-makers, from ethical glamour by

E&E Jewllery

 to sustainable streetwear emporium

Londonworks

. Food and drink is obviously a big part of the experience too, with newcomers

Oink Farmyard

bringing Suffolk-reared low carbon pork burgers to the outdoor terraces, and sundowners on the Spirited rooftop (pictured) surely one of the hottest socially distanced drinks destinations in town this spring.

News of the debut Camdenist print magazine Unlockdown, to be delivered to every household in the borough next month, has been going down well across the community. We'll be announcing some brilliant partners over the coming weeks, while work has already begun on compiling the essential guide to safely celebrating, supporting and enjoying all that makes this part of London so special. Find out more here and make sure to get in touch with your places and events that need to be shouted about as they re-open.

DRINK: The Cellar opens in King's Cross

A Cotswolds-based all day wine café has chosen the marginally less scenic surrounds of Pentonville Road for their second outlet. The Cellar has been serving sustainably-made wines by the glass, carafe and bottle, alongside British cheese and charcuterie in Stow-on-the-Wold. Now lockdown is finally easing, they are to become the latest addition to the world class King's Cross foodie line-up. Takeout including good coffee starts from Monday, with seating inside on the way.

WATCH: Euston, from lost Arch to HS2

Last week saw such enthusiasm from readers for the classic footage of King's Cross Station from the 1950s that we thought we'd continue on the theme. Check out this short video in the

Tales from the Tube

series, which takes a light-hearted look at the history of

Euston Station

, from it's grand opening, through wholesale demolition in the 1960s, including the destruction of the famous arch (pictured), and onwards to today's upheaval constructing the HS2 terminus.

LEARN: Improving child mental health with play

Local child and family mental health collective

Mind in Mind

have been gathering a website full of videos, podcasts and research from leading practitioners in this important field. This Saturday (10th, 3pm-5.30pm) they are hosting their first live webinar, Reclaiming Play After the Pandemic, which is free (although donations are welcome). Founder Jane O'Rourke will be discussing the life-affirming art of play with top child psychotherapists and play workers.

THIS WEEK'S ONE-CLICK POLL What do you think of us introducing the Camdenist X artist t-shirt series?

LAST WEEK WE ASKED:

How likely are you to make a concerted effort to support Camden's businesses and venues this summer?

Yay! The good news is that locals are very clearly planning to make a big effort supporting the return of a stronger circular economy in the borough as we begin to unlockdown. Camdenist will be actively promoting all kinds of ideas, offers and advice to help with this via our special print magazine, website and weekly emails. There's a unique opportunity to create the kind of thriving, sustainable urban environment we all deserve, so it's great to see 62% of poll voters are already prepared to invest time and money to ensure we make change happen.
