Certified Osteopath, Birth Doula, Zero-Balancer, Reiki Master and plenty more besides, Avni brings a wealth of varied experience to her holistic body work, which has a special focus on woman and babies.

“I got interested in complementary medicine in my 20s,” she tells us, when we drop by her new studio at Islington Tradestars, “and had lots of early experiences with different healing modalities, training in things like using Reiki within the NHS for people with addictions.”

As her interests evolved, she found herself drawn towards osteopathy, particularly in relation to pregnancy and paediatrics. And it was when on maternity leave with her own twin boys that she spotted these studios, just around the corner from her home. Practicing what she preaches, setting up here was about finding more balance in the perma-hectic landscape of modern urban parenting.

“I've always come back to this question of: what does success look like? And for me, it's having time in my day and not feeling like I'm constantly rushing. A commute can often feel tiring, so being here means less of a divide between my work life and my home life is really meaningful for me.”

Her workspace is far from a traditional clinic setting though, and that’s what she appreciates about it.

“Although my work is very calm, it's nice to have a bit of life going on around me. I'd worked for years in places where it just got so calm and so quiet that it could be a bit stifling. I love that when I walk down the corridor here, there's someone who's working with ceramics, there are electricians and there's someone who's doing Botox. It's very diverse.”

This buzzy environment has also opened doors to collaboration, including with Sarah at The Womankind Clinic, who we showcased in a previous Camdenist X Tradestars profile earlier this month. Avni has also linked up with a resident acupuncturist and a psychotherapist, plus begun treating another of her neighbours on the same floor.

She is also looking beyond one‑to‑one clinical work, exploring ways to use today’s media and technology to reach more people, making use on Tradestars in-house podcast and photography studios to create content. At the same time, she’s acutely aware of the risks of a screen‑dominated life, especially for children, who can often spend hours on tablets and staring at screens at school, too.

Her work increasingly centres on ‘interoception’, or helping people reconnect with the sensations inside their bodies in a highly digital age:

“That's something I've been exploring with my content; of the idea of how you teach someone to stay connected to their body. To be more intuitive and learn the softer skills - more of how you feel, rather than what you can see. We live in an increasingly visual world, so the felt sense is something that I'm really passionate about teaching people. Especially guiding women, babies, and children into a more embodied, intuitive relationship with themselves.”
